The Perfect Push-Up: Bang For Your Push-Up Buck

Push-ups have been part of my every-day life since I first joined the Navy 16 years ago. Even since leaving active duty, the routine continues. Just as my grandfather still folds towels in same manner he was taught as a Naval Aviation Cadet in 1942, I continue to drop for push-ups, mostly out of force of habit.

But the funny thing is, I don’t like push-ups. I never have. And I suspect I never will. So why would I feel compelled to test drive The Perfect Push-Up? There’s no drill instructor standing over my shoulder promising to “melt” me into a “little blue puddle.” I should choose not to do such a thing, right?

The answer is, while I don’t like push-ups, I think there’s no arguing the upper-body benefits of doing them. They build strength, flexibility, and muscular endurance through a wide range of muscle groups. You don’t need a gym to do push-ups, nor do you need years of workout experience to learn how to do them properly and effectively. Push-up cheaters are obvious to everyone, yourself included.

I wanted to try The Perfect Push-Up, because I liked the idea of it. As a push-up non-enthusiast, I want maximum “bang” for my push-up “buck”. Better to do ten “perfect” push-ups, in my book, than to cheat your way through 20.

What I first noticed while using The Perfect Push-Up was the extent to which it isolated my chest. Likely by design, the rotating handles all but took my triceps out of the equation. All I felt were my burning pecs, suggesting the efficacy of the Perfect Push-Up’s ergonomically correct design (read: Bang for the Buck).

The next thing I noticed was the distinct lack of discomfort in my shoulders. I had shoulder surgery a year ago to clean out a bunch of scar tissue and bone spurs developed through years of bench pressing too much weight using incorrect form. Ever since, I’ve been hyper-sensitive about my shoulder and was more than pleased to discover just how comfortable The Perfect Push-Up was.

Finally, after using the Perfect Push-Up, I was surprised by just how easy it seemed to do regular push-ups. While my days of taking Navy Physical Readiness Tests are over, I still do take pride in knocking out a respectable number of reps in a respectable amount of time. For those whose job descriptions require they up their number of push-ups, I’d definitely recommend The Perfect Push-Up.

But regardless of your occupation or love (or hate) of push-ups, The Perfect Push-Up will add enjoyable variety to your workout routine.

Take it from a push-up hater: The Perfect Push-Up is well worth a try.
