Navy Seals hosting fitness challenge

in

Put down those doughnuts and put on some workout gear. The Navy Seals are in San Antonio, and they are challenging you to come out and take part in the Navy Seals Fitness Challenge.

“We want to encourage people to see how they do compared to our Navy Seals,” Rear admiral Bill Goodwin said.

A Navy Seal coaches you through all five parts of the challenge.

“They shouldn’t be intimidated,” Goodwin said. “It’s a good checkup to see where they stand in their own physical fitness.”

That doesn’t make the challenge any easier. It’s all capped off by a 1 ½-mile run. The goal is to finish in less than 12 minutes.

“We thought it would be a great idea to combine the effort to get America in shape and fight obesity and promote physical fitness,” Lt. Commander Ed Rohrbach said.

They also want young people to consider a career in the Navy, where defending our country and staying in top shape are part of the job.

“They are the future of the country,” Goodwin said. “If they’re not physically fit, it’s going to be hard to serve our country and provide for our security in the future.”

The fitness challenge is free and takes place Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Northside Athletic Complex on Culebra and Loop 410.
