long days
Over the past couple of months, I've noticed some people (many of them fellow teenagers) posting workouts that start with something like: wake up at 400, and end with: go to sleep at 2100. While I respect their preparation and envy their discipline, are long days an essential component to preparation to BUD/S? Not long workouts, mind you, but long (18+ hour) days.
I run on an average of 8 hours of sleep and often have difficulty concentrating on any less than 6. All the sleep-deprivation threads here end with 'you can't train for it', but this seems different. I guess because it's not short term near-complete deprivation, but slightly less sleep over a long period of time (six months). It seems like with all the new pains BUD/S brings, working on 2+ fewer hours of sleep than you're used to wouldn't be good.
So, are long days vital to preparation? Should I get used to running on 6 or less hours of sleep? I could use any edge I can get, just wondering what the more experienced guys thought.
