I noticed a post around here that asked if the swcc lads were the illegitimate stepchildren of the teams. (paraphrased of course.) I'll give you one ol pups point of view.

Very few operations that I was ever on did we extract ourselves under fire without some greatly appreciated assistance. Quite a few times some pretty ugly guys with a fast boat and balls as big as volleyballs were the ones that came in hot to pull our asses out of the fire fight. At the time some of those lads never went through SEAL training and some had. Some SEAL, in order to make rate, had to take a billet in other units in Naval Special Warfare. Some never had anything other than the ability and willingness to do a dangerous job. I never looked upon those that rode the boats as anything other than brothers, whether they were ugly with painted faces, or bright eyed and scared FNG.

To those that are trying to accomplish a slot with the Teams, you may find that those ugly mother fuggers are a lot more than supposed stepchildren of the Teams. In fact you will more than likely find you will be chugging a beer when you get home with them.

You have to understand that the Special Boat Teams are a valuable asset to the SEALs. If the Boat Guys weren't there to get them in and out than not much would seperate them from the Marines when they were biding for a mission. You will find yourself doing many work up training exercises with your SEAL platoon. I became best of friends with the platoons that I deployed with. We would train hard and play hard all around the world. As long as you're a **** hot operator you will get the respect from Team Guys and Boat Guys a like. There are always a few ugly ducklings in the bunch. Take care.
