I'v read around about the requirments for eye sight but I'm not sure I meet those. I'm not colorblind I just need to wear glasses if I want to read or identify people at long distances. Like just being about two feet away from the computer I need to wear them otherwise it's just to blurry.
If my vision dosn't make requirments what about this corrective surgery? Do I have to find a doctor to do it or will the Navy provide it? Thanks..

The best way to see if you meet the requirements without surgery is to go see an eye doctor, that way you'll know for sure.
As for the surgery, the Navy will do it for you but there is a waiting list, and if you aren't already a SEAL then the wait can be up to 2 years. Most people here, including myself, have just got it done by a civilian doctor. The Navy doesn't have a problem with that, and it will save you a lot of time. Just remember to get PRK and NOT LASIK if you have it done. The Navy accepts LASIK but there is a 6 month wait before you can even enlist. PRK has a 3 month wait but even then you can probably get in sooner.

I had a question about this. On the Discovery Channel BUD/S third phase episdoe, they had a few guys wearing glasses, and a guy actually mention wishing he had his glasses on. Whats up with this? I have the same problem and have asked before.

I believe the reason for this is that the standards for BUD/S are not 20/20, just correctable to 20/20. So if your vision is at least 20/40 in your best eye, and no worse than 20/70 in the other...your vision is considered good enough for the training. However, once in the teams you will be put at the front of the waiting list to get PRK done. In the meantime, guys just wear glasses if they need to....hope this helps. And anyone correct me if this is not in fact true....

Hey, thanks for the answer, that makes since. That's what I was thinking too, but I was kinda wishfully hoping that it's something else. My eyes are barly off (20/25), so no doc wants to touch them.
Thanks.

Is it physically disqaulifying if you get PRK as a civilian. <-- i've read several articles
Also i have a question, there is a vision requirement just to GET a waiver. Its like one eye no worse than 20/70 and other eye no worse than 20/100. I think i have just a tad bit worse eyesight than the requirement just to be considered to get a waiver. Will the navy cut me slack?
