In reference to the incident in Somalia with the so-called failed mission. Why hasnt any of the failure been directed towards the sources that revealed the operation over the Armed forces radio network station a week earlier from the mission. It was obvious at that point when they announced that "the Rangers were preparing to capture Aideed", that the mission was no longer a secret. In my point it was not the actual Rangers that failed the mission it was the PR horny sources that failed. It was no wonder that the enemy was just waiting for our guys to walk into thier trap.

OK,

First, I was in Somalia from December 92 to September 93. I was the XO of the Special Operations Command and Control Element for UNOSOM. So I have some 'history' in the region.

Second, the missions did not fail; especially when Task Force Ranger lost two 'Super' Birds on 3 Oct 93. They targeted key leadership within the Somali National Alliance, and kidnapped key personnel on every operation. On 3 October 1993, TFR caught a whole bunch of the SNA. After the SNA was evacuated back to Mog Airport, the security element moved out to the crash sites to attempt a rescue of the aircrews and recover/destroy sensitive equipment. That's where the casualties came from: recovering US personnel AFTER the successful assault in the vicinity of the Olympic Hotel.

Third, the end result of these operations was that Aideed had to negotiate with the US/UN because he was fresh out of leadership, money and supplies. Especially money and leadership.

Fourth, no one was 'waiting' for TFR. It was combat, things like this happen. If it weren't for two lucky hits from RPG-7s from the Somalis, there wouldn't be any dead Americans; no "Blackhawk Down"; no movie; and sure-as-hell no public awareness of our ops in Somalia.

Fifth, regarding AFRTS, they NEVER broadcast any sensitive information.

Sixth, what-in-the-world are "PR Horny Sources"?

The only reason I'm being polite is because Mark Bowden, Ripley Scott, Jerry Bruckheimer, and posers badly misrepresented the facts. So your ignorance can be forgiven; once.
