I was searching around my area and found a local dive center that has certification courses. This is something I am very interested in and was just wondering if it would help prepare me for my try at getting into and attempting BUD/S. Thank you for your responses.

everything i've read says that they actually prefer that you have no experience diving because of how combat diving differs from civilian diving. but that's just what i've heard.

I've also heard get all the water framiliarization you can get whether it be diving or advanced swimming courses, etc. Its more water comfort than anything else I guess. I also am PADI certified and want to get advanced certified. I just feel more comfortable knowing I did all I can do to prepare myself before I go into the Navy because failure when I'm a new recruit at 26 is not an option (going to the fleet would blow major ***!)

Cred...

Trust me brotha, I hear ya. I'm 25 now and I'll be 26 when I ship out in Feb. I have a lot on the line for this....
All I want is the chance to succeed, that way I will be able to sleep at night when I'm 40.

Well, I've heard a few sides of this... I've heard that they like people fresh and to not have any bad habits, but I've also heard that it's good to feel comfortable underwater. They teach it like it's the first time you've done it, so you dont have to worry about being behind. The biggest thing I heard when I asked a SEAL about this was, "Combat diving and Rec diving are two very different things... You cant learn one to do the other."

So I dont know, I'm no SEAL yet.
