I would like to think that my runs are pretty good. My best time on a four mile run is 27 minutes. I live near the beach and have added several miles of beach running to my weekly workout. However, the other day I went into the recruiters office to do my PRT. My mile and a half was terrible! The moment I started to run I knew that it was going to stink. My body tensed up and I just couldn't get enough air. This happens from time to time. There are just some days when my cardio is grosely out of step with the norm. Can anyone tell me what the reason for this is?

I hate those kinda runs. I've had that happen before but that was because I wasn't eating well, but once I pulled my head out and realized that I must eat even though I was a broke college kid, my running improved so much. But it could be a number of things, and could even just be cause your body is havving an off day. I don't know of any explanations for why it was like that, but I posted this just to let you know that you're not the only person it's happened to. Hope it helps some. Bye.

It was a morning run and I was nearly late out of the house. I just grabbed some toast and some fruit snacks. I had wanted to go to the gym before it, but I slept through my alarm.

Pff eating right is overated, I live off oreos and coke and i'm doing just fine.
Hehe, J/K.
I get like that sometimes too. Sometimes I can run a 6 minute mile, sometimes I cant do it under 8 minutes. Get a good stretch in, eat some fruit and maybe eat some pasta the night before a big run

Your forgetting the most important part....
Take a massive dump right before going out the door... no point in carrying that extra weight :)

Bananas and taking a dump are the best pieces of advice on this thread.
Bananas are also high in dietary fiber, so eat 'em early enough, and they'll push out the dump for you.

A couple of things; I assume you are taking the SEAL PFT and not just the navy one. Having said that I will say this. You're run time probably has less to do with what you ate that morning then it does with the fact that after all the other evolutions of the PFT all the blood from your body is in you upperbody: arms, chest, back etc. It takes time to get that blood back down to your legs, and it takes movement. You can't just sit there and rest after your pullups and expect the blood to filter back down to your legs. Try jogging slowly at the very least, a 1/4 mile before your 1.5 mile run. It usually takes anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds off of a run. And if you are running 27 min 4 milers then you shouldn't have a problem slowly jogging 1/4 - 1/2 mile before your 1.5 mile timed run. Trust me, I know it sounds kind of backwards but it works. You need to recirculate the blood. I used to have the same problem. I would run a great 3 or 4 mile run but then at the end of the PFT I would start running and feel like I wanted to die. Then I started warming up before the run and I felt so much more rested and energized. Give it a try and you'll see a difference.
