hey, i was just wondering if SEALS are better than the SAS or SBS?
This could be an endless debate. I belive the thing that stands out as being diffrent from Seal training is that SBS and SAS troopers are taught to be more self sufficent than their American counterparts.
I understand that hand to hand combat is taught at basic seal training. In the UK SAS and SBS it's not.
Dont know why, bloke once told me it's because they give you a gun!
SAS troopers spend quite long periods on solo marches and navigation excersises and such like and often will work for extended periods ( weeks) as just a unit of two or four operators. I daresay that each branch of the service has it's own merits and credits: For example I know that Seals are considered to have a much greater percentage of upper body strength that SAS/SBS troopers. One thing SAS blokes excel in is long distance marches in incredibly short amounts of time. Gruelling feats of endurance is something they inadvertently seem to be prone to doing!
I'm thinking especially of Chris Ryan: His book; The One That Got AWay.

It depends. The SAS are experienced in all fields just like the SEALs, but might be better at some things, while SEALs are better at others. Also I'm pretty sure the SEALs and SAS train together so they learn each others skills.

As near as I can figure it(from years of fanatically reading up on counter-terrorism, SEALs,Delta and so on I have a Limited knowledge of SAS and how they operate, but it seems the SEALS have a mucho mucho bigger budget and train almost twice as much. So the SAS will say they are much tougher than the SEALs but I say they just about break even on that score. My heart lies with the SEALs however! A SEAL will outmanuver and outperform SAS 3 times out of 4!!!

To my under standing ( I dont know a great deal about SEAL's ) a SEAL's job is to swim a little bit ( 10-15 miles ) then blow somthing up kill someone then get back out of there and only be on the ground maybey 24 hrs . But the SAS's job is a little different in that thay act in small groups for long periods of time (2-3 months) behind enimy lines some times with out resupply ,hence the endurance bit thay also focus a lot on survival ( all troopers do an exstensive survival course lasting a couple of months i think before they are assigned to a squadron ) the main job for the SAS is information gathering and if the need/opertunity arises then they get to blow stuff up .
so in short the seals run /swim in do the job then run/swim out
the sas run/walk/crawl/swim for days then sit there and watch untill the leve month or so later
that is a very simplistic vertion of what the sas and seals ( thru my eyes) do but the 2 do cross into each others teritory quite often i would imagine
