COOL, now I really feel special
I saw a Mk-5 on display at the SEAL Museum down at Ft. Pierce during the last Muster. Talked to the crew for awhile and was really impressed with both the crew and the boat.
Things have come a long way in 35 years

A62,
If that were only so.
If we were running with the current, had the sails rigged and throttle maxed we might make 13 knots.( converted mike 6s)
But we did carry a punch.

Dang bro, I can hump that fast. I think. How many MPH to a knot?
But we did carry a punch.
That one of them boats that had morters and 105's on them? Kinda looked like the old Ironclads? betcha it would have been cool to cruise the scenic waterways of the delta, sunnin yourselves and drinkin a cold one.LMAO You guys did get to do that, didn't ya?

Skims & Spectre,
Sure, make fun of the old guy lol
A62,
Yep, they was the ironclads.
The Modile Riverine Force was designed to work with elements of the U.S.Army's 9th Inf. Div to clear Mr. Charles out of the Delta.
There were 4 basic boats and the weapons varied from boat to boat.
1- The Monitor ( Mike boat ) was the battleship . She carried a 40mm cannon foward, a 20mm cannon and two 50 cal. machine guns aft and two 30 cal. machine guns amidship. There was also a 81mm mortar.
2- The Command & comm. ( CCB ) was pretty much the same .
3- The Armored Troop Carrier ( ATC or Tango ) She carried a 20mm cannon and two 50 cal nachine guns aft. Some of them had 40mm granade launchers. They were designed to carry a reinforced Inf. Plt.
4- The ASPB ( Alpha boat) was the speed demon of the group. She could make ( all right kids, don't laugh ) 16 knots. She carried a 20mm cannon foward, a 50cal machine amidship and a 81mm mortar aft. They were later rigged to function as mine sweepers.
Some of the newer Mike boats came with a 105. There were also boats designed as "Zippos". I also remember a boat that was equiped with a high pressure water pump. It could actually wash away bunkers that were dug into the banks of the rivers and canals.
