How many missions???

How many missions can a SEAL expect to go on in his tour of duty as a SEAL??? It seems like it would really SUCK to got through all that training to just wear a trident and never see a real life op!!! I mean, that's what you become a SEAL for right. Doug, how many ops did you go on in your tour?

A SEAL can only expect to perform the number of missions he is selected for. Some SEALs never do a combat or high risk mission. Others will do many. It comes down to the particular mission at hand, who is available, and who has the experience to successfully perform the mission. The experienced SEAL will be the lead man, the inexperienced will be the support man. If an occassion arises where only a mix of experienced and inexperienced is available at a given time, all levels of experience will move ahead.

I have a friend who transferred into several SEAL units hoping to be selected to a combat assignment. His unit at the moment was never selelcted. He never saw combat, ever. Other personnel will be selected as a "Detachment", just a few men. And these same men will perform many high risk or combat missions because they are on the spot when needed, and on the spot when a new, unforeseen need arises.

It is the luck of the draw. Many, a few, or none.

First you become a SEAL to serve your country.. Wazz said it .. it is the luck of the draw as far as combat missions.. THEMOST successful missions are where there is not a shot fired. It happens most of the time when something goes amiss.. With a few exceptions like an ambush.. I know some of the best operators we have had never dropped a hammer. Combat is not like the movies or TV, or a video game. the best mission i s when you can play ghost. Many of the missions done in peacetime are as dangerous as being in a combat zone. Even our training is taken just as serious as an Actual.. Has to be.
