Goodness Gracious Great Balls of Fire. I know a guy, great guy. He's an avid bodybuilder, he used to compete in the state comp. here in AK. Anyways, he's by far the best preacher I've ever talked to in my entire life. Better than these guys on TV. Although he's not even a qualified preacher. He WANTS to be, and in spare time dedicates his life to serving christ.
MY POINT IS - This guy gave me the best sermon of my life right here in the local gym. It was a basic overview of why christians believe what they do and how you can become one. He gave an analogy of trying to make up for your sins, the analogy was an omlette. Follow? The following is just a few of a 68 point sermon. Keep in mind he did not make up this sermon, I would give credit to whoever did (some guy down south), but I dont know who it is.
If you are trying to make an omlette for your friends. And you have 10 eggs. And one of those eggs is rotten, although you can't make a 9 egg omlette there wont be enough to go around (oddly enough ;) ). So you throw in the rotten egg, trying to compensate with the other 9 fresh eggs. What happens? The omlette still tastes rancid. What kind of a friend are you anyways?
Think about how people constantly try to do this to God. They try to make up for their sins with good deeds and end up short of God's expectations with a lame attempt. Serving him an omlette of your life with 9 fresh eggs and 1 rotten one, spoiling his meal.
Salvation is a gift, you recieve it, you don't earn it. If I gives you a gift, say a $4,000 dollar rolex, "Here man, on me, JUST CAUSE I LOVE YOU THAT MUCH", and you try to "pay it off", with $5 not knowing it's an expensive rolex ,what happens there? I get offended. I tried to give you a gift out of the kindness of my heart, and you try to "Pay me off"???
Ok, I'm getting off topic. I could ramble for hours. My point is. Jesus DIED for your sins (I know you believe that if you're Catholic). All you have to do is accept him into your heart. Love him, walk with him, know him. If God asked you why you should get into heaven, what would you say (answer to yourself real quick, it's important you have an answer for the next part)...
You most likely answer with, "Well I...., Because I haven't....., I have...., etc.). YOU YOU YOU. Shut up with you for a second. People try to blend in their sins with good deeds, explain why they should get into heaven. That won't work. Because if you said, "Well I...." in your answer, you are comparing yourself with other people, relativity doesn't work that way. If you were speaking relatively, think of Jesus, HE is God's expectation of you, PERFECTION. Which is unattainable by man. The only way to God is through Christ.
Let me ask you this, when Christ died for ALL OF YOU SINS on the cross, ALL of them. If you killed 17 people, were those people included? Yes. All you have to do is accept Christ into your heart. I have 50 more points to make but my dad is asking to get on the computer, questions??? Ask me and I'll do my best to answer them (Don't expect too much, I'm not God). But think about that.
is the a place that you can pray or ask for forgivness.
Yes, the military has Chaplains and Chapels. Some of the best men I knew were Chaplains.

A62 is quite correct. Plus you have access to any civilian Priest or Father. There is no restriction on Religion in the Navy. Only the prohibition of having a Chaplin or Priest in small units would deny you immediate access to a confessor of your choice.
I do not know if you have an anticiapted wish to join a battle group. But if you have, give it some thought. You will be called upon to kill someone , perhaps several. That's what battle members do.

I'm not a SEAL, just to clarify that, and what I say others may disagree with. However, here are some questions you may want to consider and answer before ever deciding to become a SEAL. A very wise friend (sorta like a mentor, I guess) asked me these same questions some time ago. He didn't discourage my desire to become a SEAL, merely questioned if I realized what I was preparing for.
Are you ready to fight in close combat? Are you ready to look into the eyes of another human, another soldier, and without stopping to question or stopping to consider possible outcomes, cut that human's throat? Are you ready leave that human and face the next, ready to cut his throat?
Are you ready to see your very best friend gutted? Are you ready to see him shot in the head or see him bleed to death? Can you remain collected enough to defend your friend competently even if he needs immediate attention?
What will you do when you see human blood? What will you do after you have killed a human, killed 5 humans? What will you do when you return to your wife/girlfriend/child? Can you love completely and yet still kill? Can you protect life and take it?
I've never been in battle and I will not be able to fully answer those questions until I'm there. But I do know what is inside of me, who I believe in, what I believe in. And through that faith, through my beliefs, I am able to answer those questions. Consider these questions, ask yourself how you can answer them. It should give you some idea of personal or religious conflicts you may have if serving as a SEAL.

as a catholic i also believe in revealation(something God has called you to do) and i feel that my revealation is to join the navy and be seal, and i do know that i could kill people at point blank, cut throats, see close companions die ect. so by asking my self those questions i realize that this profession is even more right for me. thanks wazz, a62, child of god, and jt. i would love to hear more thoughts.

Smith,
My father fought in the Korean War he was a tanker and I'm sure he killed a few folks in his day.
Don't worry about it.He rasied us Catholic and never had a problem going to church or thinking about what
he had done.We as a famliy were very proud of him and his service.Consult your parish priest and they can
help you through this.

First of all, CHILDOFGOD, That was a very good post there bud! Second of all, some of the greatest warriors of the old testament were men of God who slayed many men! For example: King David. What you must do as a SEAL will undoubtly compromise your morals as a Catholic/Christian. What you need to do is simply pray and seek God's guidance on this matter!!!
