Should I start the running goal in mornings or afternoons?

Should I buy light boot and military pants and run with them on?

HELP?

Hey dude,

I am not a SEAL, but have been training a lot in the hopes for BUDs, so hopefully I can offer some good thoughts to you on these matters.

1. Running- whatever best fits your schedule really in terms of when to run. The only reason I do suggest afternoon is better if you have a flexible schedule is to keep in line with the screen test. Remember that the screen test starts with swimming, then moves to pushups/situps/pullups finishing out with the run. So on days when do you all three of those things in training, I would suggest doing them in that order throughout the day so you can adapt to doing the later exercises while you are still sore/exercised on any earlier exercises. I usually try to run in the evenings, but sometimes work dictates otherwise or it is raining in the morning and the pool is closed- and then I run in the morning.

2. Check out the Warning Order and stand by to hear hopefully from some wiser voices than my own on this, but I would suggest getting comfortable with running first before you do the boots. Once you are at a level where you can do the runs in the PT program on the Warning Order, then I would think it is time to add boots. Check the archives too for questions on boots- there have been questions on this before and a specific name and make of boot has been suggested. I would tell you, but I honestly do not remember what it was. Just check through all the posts and you will find others who asked about boots.

Hope this helps!

I agree with elpaninaro. Get used to running first then slap on the boots. The ones that I ordered were the Bates 924. Those are the boots that everyone told me to buy when I was asking around. I believe those are the ones they use. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Either way they have worked great for me so far. Also, I try to run either in the afternoon or the evening, plus that works out better with my schedule since I have class in the morning and early afternoon. But whatever time is good for you as long as you run.

Good luck with the training!

Check out the PT program here : http://www.sealchallenge.navy.mil/workout.htm
I'm on Catagory 2, and it sure is a pretty good workout. You should think about it, it takes some time, but it doesnt really involve any equipment that you don't have access to. Also, PT stands for "Physical Training", so you don't need to say PT training because it's redundant, just a helpful hint. Take care and God Bless.

There are a couple really good boots to run in, the Bates 924 are the ones currently used in BUD/S, as far as i know at least that type of thing is subject to change as new products come on the market. Hi-Tec's are nice and comfy. If you are really gung-ho there are always the good ol'e Jungle Boots. Good Luck
