Is there any SEALs who were in Civil Air Patrol as a teenager? If so I was wonder if that helped you become a SEAL?
Thanks, I'm in Civil Air Patro right now and I am trying to decide what I want to do in the Military.

Was never in anything like that. Whatever the hell it is - but trust me when I say it will NOT do anything to help prepare you for the Teams.

How can you say that when you have no idea what it is. That's almost like saying excesise will not help you get through BUD/s. Civil Air Patrol is and Auxillary of the Air Force, It's 100 times better that the sea cadets if you can compare the two. Much more dicipline and we actually can drill correctly. CAP has helped me w/ my leadership skills and I am curently my squadrons Flight sergeant, will become the First sergeant and cadet commander. There's also what we call encampments in the summer. I'm planning to go to one in new mexico and pararecue men teach us the basics of land navigation, rappelling, rockclimbing, ect. So is it still true in your mind, "it will NOT do anything to help prepare you for the Teams."
But I do have one more question, what was it that really motivated you in becoming SEAL? thanks
Stevie,
You need to chill man. first of all the man who gave you the answer is an AD SEAL. Sorry he didn't give you the answer tou wanted to hear, however, I would take his answer to the bank
Her, let me help you:
Civil Air Patrol is and Auxillary of the Air Force,
Well, there it is. Says it all.LOL
It's 100 times better that the sea cadets if you can compare the two.
and your resource for this erroneous info?
So is it still true in your mind, "it will NOT do anything to help prepare you for the Teams."
I'm sure his answer will not change.LOL Sorry Digem, Didn't mean to ruin your fun.*EG* He neeeds to show respect for his betters. With all that "superior" training, you would think he would know.IMHO.

Because I have been through BUD/S and NOTHING in the world can prepare you for it.
That's almost like saying excesise will not help you get through BUD/s.
Excercise will not help you get through BUD/S. Guys dont quit because they cant do push ups or sit ups. They quit cause they cant take it anymore. They cant take the constant harassment and abuse. They cant deal with the cold water and being wet and sandy all the time. If you go into BUD/S able to do the minimums on the PST (which is pretty sorry if that is all you can do), the instructors will build up your abilities. I know this because Ive done this.
CAP has helped me w/ my leadership skills and I am curently my squadrons Flight sergeant, will become the First sergeant and cadet commander.
So it may help you become a leader and maybe even an officer, but BUD/S is about a lot more than just leadership. Its about teamwork and never giving up under ANY circumstances whatsoever.
I'm planning to go to one in new mexico and pararecue men teach us the basics of land navigation, rappelling, rockclimbing, ect.
They teach you that stuff in BUD/S third phase just because you have to know it. It is nothing very special. You can learn the same stuff as a boy scout. Will they give you live action fire drills, FTX's, room raids, etc? How do you think learning simple basic skills prepares you for the toughest military training in the world? Think about it. Yes my answer is still exactly the same.
But I do have one more question, what was it that really motivated you in becoming SEAL?
SEALS in Vietnam. Their stories drove me and inspired me. I was in awe of the stories and knew right away - that is what I want to do and who I want to be. A special thanks from me to ALL Nam vets from all services! THANK YOU!

As a Instructor at UWSS in Key West Fla we used to train Pararescue. They are a top notch outfit at their job. However as Digem said.. NOTHING compares to BUD/S..And BUD/S s just the first step in becoming ta SEAL.
