Hey, all--
I checked through some of the old topics, but not all, so I apologize if this has been asked and answered. What is the usual time of service for active duty SEALs? I can't imagine that many would be willing to leave the Teams after a year or two, but I wondered what is a realistic--or at least average-- amount of time spent in the Teams? I was told once that it was "a young man's game," but I would expect the knowledge and experience of older operators made them incredibly valuable.
And how many SEALs stay in the Navy after stepping away from active participation in the Teams? Any ideas?
Thanks for your time!

BF sorry no one took the time to answer this. Most of the guys will stay with the teams as long as possible. In one capacity or another. I know guys that have stayed with Spec War for the term. Back in the olden days in order to advance you had to move on to other Commands to move up. Now with the structure, those that want can spend thirty years or more with the Command, teams or tangental groups. I would surmise that most who make the Navy their career stay whether they are SEAL or not. The SEAL I know still in, have stayed with some element of the Command, or teams structure for the duration. Some that are now out, have even gotten civil service jobs with the teams. Where you been hiding BF?

SuperPup--
Thank you. Another person emailed me directly with some information regarding this, but I just assumed everyone else was very, very busy. After all, you folks do have lives, and I respect that.
Where you been hiding BF?
Oooo, that's a long, long story, and I can't imagine the people who read this forum care to hear it. ;) But I'd be happy to tell you via email or the chatroom, if we can pick a time. What's better for you?
Another query, if I may...what is the biggest reason SEALs leave or stay in the Teams?
Thanks again, Pup. Mwah! to you and Pupette.

This is absolutely only my opinion BF, I think the reason that most get out is because they tire of the life. Alot of guys get into the teams and find some time down the road that they've grown beyond their dreams of from the time they were 10 and they wanted to be in seals. Then they find out it is SEAL Teams. Not an individual full of dreams of their self glory. The men who stay in are dedicated adult men who went in, NOT for glory, but the satisfaction of being part of not just the Teams, but the Navy and a military life and all that, that entails. Some get out to broaden their life opportunities in the civilian market place not subject to military constraints. Some stay in because they are comfortable in their life and wish no more or less. All of the men that I know that are still in for a career, or retired from the life, are some of the brightest, most able and dedicated men on this planet. I know some that got out that are equally as talented and intelligent but felt they needed more for themselves and their families. I'm predjudiced, I think my team mates are/were and still are the best, and I was glad to be a pup amongst them all.
You know me, I operate late. Always have enjoyed the dawning of a new day.
