Your best bet when you join the Navy is to sign up under the SEAL challenge contract. This contract guarantees you an oppurtunity to pass the BUD/S physical fitness screening test in three tries. If you are able to do this, then you are guaranteed a spot in BUD/S. Otherwise, if you join the Navy without this contract, you take your chances on wether or not you get a spot at BUD/S. However, anyone (male) who joins the Navy and meets certain screening requirements can take the P/T test in bootcamp. However, only the SEAL challenge contract will guarantee you a spot at BUD/S if you pass the screening test. Contact a SEAL recruiter for more information on this program at
1-888-USN-SEAL. Hope this helps.

There are some negatives to doing the SEAL contract though.

- If you dont pass the BUDS screen test in those 3 times you dont get another shot at it.
- If you do get a spot at BUDs you are required to re-enlist for a year prior to BUD's starting.

pro's
- guaranteed that you can participate in pretest ( so can enlistees that meet physical requirements )
- 5k upon BUD's completion ( whoopde doo )

At this time there arent any waviers being allowed for the SEAL challenge b/c they got so backed up this past year. Currently there is a 3 month wait getting into a BUD's class. The SEAL motivator I have was happy I wasn't doing it b/c he had allready 3 recruits screwed in basic with injury's and failed all three pre-tests.

I could be wrong but im almost positive I was told that if you dont have a SEAL contract you can try for the pretest as many times as you like.

If you are really serious on this I would talk to a SEAL motivator their numbers are on this site. They are SEAL's who who deal specifically with person's interested in becoming a SEAL.
