Hello, my name is Samuel. I'm a minister in Dallas, Texas. I have a family consisting of my wife and baby girl. I'm thinking of joining the Air Force for two reasons. One, so my wife doesn't have to work anymore and two, so I can take advantage of all the benefits it has to offer. My question is this, I would like to go into the medical field and be a nurse, however, you must have a degree before they let you do that. So I'm considering a Aeromedical position so that I can get some training in the field at least. Would my wife really not have to work any longer so she can stay home with the baby, or is this a myth recruiters spill out? I didn't know you made enough money for the spouse to stay home in the military. What is family life like in the Air Force? Will I get shipped overseas and NOT be able to take my family? I heard that some Air Force positions get sent overseas for TWO WHOLE YEARS without their families, please tell me this isn't true? Would my job, seeing if I get Areomedical, be a regular 9-5 where I would get to come home every night to see my wife and family or would I be gone most the time? If I were to get shipped off, how long would I be overseas or wherever without my family? As you can see I am very family orriented and I would like to stay as close as possible to my wife and baby. Do you really have time to go to school and work towards your degree while in active duty or this just another myth as well? Thank you very much for answering these questions and God bless you and look after you.
