For teh past 2 weeks i've been doing about 100-125 pushups a day. I will do 25 like 4 times a day. Anyways, i watched my BUDS CLASS 234 dvds and I notice some the trainess there are doing pushups. with there head strait up and looking ahead, however the back is curved. The way i've been doing them is with my face, facing the ground and i go down to where my nose is like 2 inches from the ground, and i go back up. This way ive been able to do 45-50 pushups in 2 minutes. BTW, when i do pushups. No matter if im looking strait ahead or at the ground i get a pain in the abs(no pun intended) after like 20 pushups, is the normal?, and which way is the right way to do them? Heads up or heads down?

Ok, if you would do a search on pushups you would have found a thread about a month back asking what the proper pushups technique was at BUD/S. What they said in the thread was , have your back straight head facing forward and go down till your belt buckle is just above the ground. This way all of your muscles get taxed at about the same pace. The only time I get pain in my ABs while doing pushups is after I do my situps... for example i do 100 situps, then 100 pushups, then 100 more situps then 100 more pushups... in between each set of 50 situps i do 50 flutter kicks.. at the count of 1,2,3 1 1,2,3 2. .. I only feel abdominal pain during my last 50 pushups.... but yea it should be normal... your body just needs to adjust. But if the pain is really bad, stop and take a rest, dont hurt yourself.

And you sound like you just started this workout regiment... I'd break down your work out too everyother day, say do pushups monday, weds, friday, and Run/Swim on tues, thurs saturday. Take sunday off. Its a good regiment and a little easier on the body.


Not to sound like a A$$ hole. But please use the search function on this website before you ask a question because chances are.. your questions been asked and answered 20 times.. such as this one. Theres also a thread in this forum on the different pushups and techniques you can do.. just a little heads up. Oh, and the Search bar is at the top of the website theres a box to type stuff in then click on the search button or the go button. OK no problem your welcome and peace out.

when you said that the guys back was arched it sounded like you were talking about a diff. kind of push up.i dont know the actual name for this,but there is an excercise where you arch you bach look forward then swing youre head and body to ground thenyou are looking strat up at the sky and youre body is on the floor.sorry if i diddnt make sence.but there is an excercise like that.and they do that often.

USE the SEARCH please. But ill answer anyways since I have time on my hands. The pushup where you start with your body arched up, swing your head twards the ground and back up, then push out with your arms. Its been called a couple things, but the one that I remember it being called is DIVE-BOMBERS .... there a good workout and a nice change to a workout routine. Try em out.

Your nose, chin, chest should all touch with your back as straight as possible. Anything else is **************** ! Don't you just love censorship?

Censorship sucks. But what'cha going to do? I hear kids the age of 7 using worse language and doing worse things than I said or done when I was 7... oh well they'll learn someday.

But good information non-theless which you all can now use your "SEARCH" button to find haha.
Sealpup do you believe that we should be doing Pushups, nice and slow... or as fast as possible... with perfect form of course. I know I feel the burn when I take my time and slow em' down. Just wanted to know your .02 cents.

I'm with you, slow, with form, build the reps up as you get stronger.

If you watch that video you'll notice most of their pushups look like crap. There's a good reason. If you do about 500 situps before breakfest and then drop yourslef for pushups at least once every ten minutes for the rest of the day you'll notice what they look ridiculous before lunch. Now try doing for five days straight starting on monday if you can do 50 good pushups by friday afternoon your doing well.. 100 a day is good but you should be doing at least 100 in a workout (ie. within an hour). Oh yeah, do them heads up. The frist 3 weeks of phase isn't to make you stronger, its to push you past what your body can handle in order to see how your mind/will responds.

thank you sealpup. In my weight lifting class i had an arguement with some guy on this same topic. Thanks for clarifying it.
