Where is your weapon secured? For heavier items... M249 as well?

I've noticed that some jumps are performed with fins on or secured. How critical is having your hands free in sky diving?

What are the details to landing in water...

How do you seperate yourself from the train wreck of chute and line... ?

I'm thinking me.. +100 or so pound of gear and I would make a good yard dart or fishing lure... The chutes must be rated for a ceratin weight...

Can you tell I'm facinated with jumping in...?

I'm sure it's a blast... After the first clap of thunder that is....

I will say that having your hands free is pretty damn important. As too where your weapons go and the rest of your gear, I guess you could watch Band of Brothers. When it comes to jumping into water... I'd just rather not say at this time. Maybe if i catch you in the chat some time.

sawillia,

I will try to answer some of these questions for you. If I remember correctly the heavier weapons are put in what is called a PAE bag. Your racksack contains most of your gear and is attached to your harness in front and after opening your chute it is released ( it is attached to a suspension line of approx. 50 feet,) and it hits the ground first (then it sometimes serves as an anchor helping to bust your butt).

Having your hands free is critical. You use your hands and arms to control your actions in free fall. For example, you can do any maneuver that an airplane can with the exception of climbing. Also they are used to release the pilot chute that helps to open your main chute. Equipment bags may make manuevers awkward.

When making a water jump, you get wet! Just kidding. Actually, after opening and approaching the water, the harness is opened to allow you to get free of the chute as soon as you hit the water. If you do not get free you could get drug. There has been a case of this happenig and the jumper drowned.

As to a line/chute entanglement, I am not that sure of the procedures for the new chutes. I beleive they do a cutaway ( releasing the lines) and open the reserve chute.

The new chutes seem to handle the big guys pretty good but I do not know about any weight modifications.

You also have to remember that I retired nearly 26 years ago.
