Understood. Is there/was there a RRD? It's mentioned some in the SEAL forum, but I haven't read anything about it in here... Also, as a Ranger, is it difficult to earn a spot in/apply for more advanced schooling (i.e. H2H, weapons, leadership etc etc) ? Thanks for the time.

There is a Regimental Recon Detachment. They wear the 75th Scroll, and train for more reconnaisance-type stuff. most of the details of their training is OPSEC, but they are some good duys. If you're looking for the cream of the crop, they're it.

As far as advanced training, it depends on where you are in Batt. If you are wanting to head over to Sniper Section, you'll be sent to SOTIC. If you are heading to RRD, you'll go to SCUBA and HALO schools. Things like that.

That's exactly what I was wondering. Is there any way to speed up this process or "earn" a slot at going to a more advanced school? Or do they generally just give it to the guys who have been busting a s s and could use more specialized skills? Is there any possibility of a non-RRD Ranger getting a shot at HALO? I appreciate the time on the post, thanks a lot.

Not really. Unless you are in a spot where you'll be needing to use those specialties, they won't send you to the class. I imagine it's diffrent in SF, according to wherever you're put, but in a Ranger Bn, they only send you to the classes you need for your particular job. You might get Pathfinder School or something, but probably not one of the more "Cool Guy" slots.
