I'll have a college degree in another semester and I am thinking about joining the Navy and taking the SEALS challenge. Should I enlist in the Navy and not mention the college degree and not go to Officer Candicy School then BUD/S, if that's how it works, or vice versa?

in my humble opinion, you can go officer after you make it though BUD/S enlisted you can go bakc if you do nto make it the 1st time. officers get one shot, if they dont make it its a wrap so i woudl go enlisted make it then go officer. but thats just my opinion

with your college degree if you go in as enlisted you need to mention that you have a bachelors degree to the recruiterand this will grant you an E-4 rating or 3rd class petty officer i think (just make sure you get that in your contract), you won't be awared the rank until after boot, i think, but immediately upon enlisting your pay will be about $400 higher per month than an E-1, i think. after your first deployment overseas then go for OCS.

you would not get e-4 after boot. but you can get e-3 you will not get e-4 until you have completed an "A" school i.e. BUD/S you need to be rated to pick up e-4 and you need to complete an "A" school to be rated. weather its PC(postal clerk) or SO(special warfare operator, SEAL).

skyline, i thought all enlisted men who complete SEAL training through the SEAL challenge are given an E-4 rating. So what's the difference between those coming out of high school and those with a college degree? You would think those who have a degree would have a higher rank than those without a degree after the completion of training.

i did read an article on military.com on enlisting as an E-3 or E-4 because of having a bachelors degree, but now I can't seem to find it. Anyone got any info?

can you do nrotc and still not be an officer if you dont do ocs, and if you fail buds as an officer can you choose another officer job like pilot, or do you get whatever they give you

"In 2005, the Navy expanded the pool of eligible officers to include all SEAL Limited Duty Officers (LDOs) whose valuable previous enlisted experience significantly enhances the combat lethality of Naval Special Warfare" this quote was found on the official seal site. does this mean that anyone who started as an enlisted can become officers whenever they had the time

i plan to do NROTC as a marine option and serve the four years in a combat role, then go BUDs. in terms of getting experience and a better chance at getting a officer billet for SEALs does this plan sound good, are there any holes?
