You're right. I didn't know "others" used your username. But (and keeping in mind that I am possibly VERY mistaken).........

Who would notice "muddy boots" other than a woman? Sure, I kick the crap off my boots when arriving at pavement or indoors (or hopefully BEFORE indoors), but I really don't think about my boot trackings or those of other dudes (since I don't have to clean it up).

"Muddy boots guy" just seems like something that a woman who had to deal with the mess a lot would think about. Likewise, I there are numerous things about women, that other women think of first -- and yet, men don't. An example is how many women have asked me what the eye color of "X" female was/is. I have to be honest when I say that other than my wife and ex-wife, I can't remember the eye color of NAY females (and I remembered theirs just to keep out of trouble). I can remember OTHER attributes, but that isn't one of them.:D

ROFLMAO! Me? Deal with boots? No Way Jose'! I don't shine boots. I don't clean mud off boots. I didn't get them dusty, dirty, muddy, wear the soles out, lose them, or sign up to wear them. They aren't mine. I don't take of them to be resoled. I have been known to drop BDU's at Miss Hanni's or pick them up if they are pre-paid but only if there's a really good reason.

First time I heard the expression muddy boots kind of soldier was at the promotion of a CWO-4 to CWO-5. That was a couple years ago.

The next time I ask him to take my heels in for new caps he can as me to shine boots.

As we say around here - There are boy things and there are girl things. You don't ask me to do guy stuff and I'll make sure you aren't in the feminine supply aisle asking for a price check.

Thanks Longrange. My sister and I both throw darts, and we looked at Dartjunky's homepage. He looks like a member of the Three Monkey's team. That's why I asked the question. Figured that the case as you had stated off topic. I never have been able to play that game. Have triied but just not good at that wrist snap, or whatever it is you do to get the dart to fly straight.

I got a nice apology from dartjunky, but would appreciate an open apology here. He seems to have erased the original post but I will not erase mine until I see an apology to you as public as his blasting. :)

I am in agreement with Sneaky that BTDT is a lousy term since there's such a huge number of things that people can claim BTDT status for. Giving birth? BTDT! Put up with stupid wives who think their husband's rank belongs to them? Oh yeah, and more than once. Beat the crap out of life in general because you were the one at home while the other half was gone so you had no choice? Raising my hand for that one too.

Combat Vet is a good measuring stick of been there, done that status but not all the things special forces has done are labelled as combat. Would anyone want to take what they do as less than what it's worth or take anything away from them simply because it's not classified a certain way?

I've heard the fellas addressed as warriors, and it's a name I agree with 110%. I'm going with Sneaky and the other half though and saying that muddy boots dude gets my guuuuurrrrl vote.

(For myself, I like Godzilla. the other half always tells me if I don't like what someone is doing then "Godzilla them off the A/O." You can call me Godzilla or God for short)

*LOL* Concur again BTDT should not be used on the internet as far as I am concerned Unless we can define where THAT is and exactly what the f@&k THAT was. I can only bestow BTDT status on someone in person, to me it can only be told in how a person carries themselfes and if I can find familularity{sp?} in their eyes.

Of course I could revert back to my old days, around a regular base all they ever called us was THEM ... or Crazy sometimes the smart ones called us psycho and left us alone *LMAO*

Hi Yossarian,

Please don't take my post to mean that I have no respect for the guys and girls in the backlines. Not at all. The logistics of just keeping the front line, fed, watered, fit, armed, and in as good as health as possible, fuel, etc is amazing, they do a tremendous job. My apologies if any were offended by my post, NOT my intention.

What they have accomplished over in Iraq, so far from home is a prime example. Another terrific example of the defence force logistics capabilities was the Berlin Airlift at end of WWII. Simply amazing! Well done to them all.

Was just getting in spirit of the comp.

I see from your profile you are going in under the 18x, sincerely, I hope you do well and it is people like you and all the other real deals on the board in whatever capacity, that we can thank for the peace we civvies enjoy. Stay safe in your service and all the best for the training ahead.

And a big thank you to Yossarian for contacting me and letting me know the difference in the forces as to the Snuffies(love that name!) and logistics. I Understand it now! Was sortof lumping them together in above posts.

They all do a great job and I am thinking that is why teamwork is so important, not just within the teams, batts, etc but across all the different areas, they all rely on everyone to do their job well for it to work.

Again, my apologies for any confusion.

Does that mean the same thing it did 35 years ago?LOL The question is, what do you want this term to signify? A combat Vet or a Meateater? You can of course be a Combat Vet and never have been a meateater, and you can be a meateater and never have seen combat.

Therein lies the problem. Obviously combat is THE discriminating factor, but many times the call never comes during a given timframe (although it doesn't look like that will be the case in the foreseeable future). I wouldn't say that a guy that served from '75-'95 in 1st or 10th SFG is not a BTDT because he didn't go to Greneda or JC and was not in the ME. The committments were small over there if I remember right.

I'm authorized a combat patch for JC, but a Ranger PFC back from 'Stan is more likely to have been shot and shot than I was in Panama.

Also, some people have the misfortune to be in SWC or staff jobs when these ops happen - not their fault.

Hard question isn't it?
