I have had asthma since I was about three when it was relatively bad but now it is much better, but I still have it. The last asthma attack I had was 5 years ago. I do combat sports and such like kickboxing and kung fu and I have no problem at all. I also lift some weights and do push ups, I can do 125 in a row and I run a mile in 6 minutes and 27 seconds. But after I run, mostly in the cold for example I need to take my inhaler, but then I am fine for another 5 hours. I have been taking other medicine from some wierd doctor that has been slowly but surely curing my asthma but I do not know if it will totally rid my of it. I don't see myself doing much else than being a SEAL, and if I couldn't I would still very much like a career in the military, but I don't know if I can because of asthma. I heard that I could get into the airforce but I really would like to be in the SEALs and if not something else like it. I know that my asthma would be fine if I did BUD/s because I have never had much of a problem but I would have to carry in inhaler. If I can't be a SEAL, could I possibly be an Army Ranger or something else, I know I could do it, physically because I enjoy exercice, alot, and I have wanted to be in the military for a very long time, ever since about 13. I am now 17 and I would probably join around 24 to 27 after my masters or phd. Sorry that my question was so long, but I am sort of dissapointed about not being able to join something in the US military. By the way, if somehow I do get rid of my asthma, could I then become a SEAL? or something to do with SEALs?
Thank you very much for your time and sorry I wrote so much junk

hey, im not a SEAL, but I'm hoping that it wouldn't hurt for me to just mention something. I say, if you want to go for being in the military, and if the air force is your only opportunity then go for it. If you want action, then you can always try out for being a Combat Controller in the Air Force. I hope i didn't make anyone mad by giving my suggestion.

*not a SEAL*
I have the same problem that you do. I had asthma when I was younger, but I haven't had any asthma attacks since i was little. I have to use my inhaler occasionally in the winter when i go nordic skiing, but otherwise it isn't a problem. I know for a fact that asthma does disqualify you for the SEAL program because i got that question answered at navy.com by a recruiter. That wouldn't be good for your team if you were sent out to save someone and you get an asthma attack.

Will the doctors look up your medical records and say you can't do the SEAL program because you had an asthma attack 10 years ago?

They will scrutinze you past medical records then re-test you.
