I have had asthma since I was about three when it was relatively bad but now it is much better, but I still have it. The last asthma attack I had was 5 years ago. I do combat sports and such like kickboxing and kung fu and I have no problem at all. I also lift some weights and do push ups, I can do 125 in a row and I run a mile in 6 minutes and 27 seconds. But after I run, mostly in the cold for example I need to take my inhaler, but then I am fine for another 5 hours. I have been taking other medicine from some wierd doctor that has been slowly but surely curing my asthma but I do not know if it will totally rid my of it. I don't see myself doing much else than being a SEAL, and if I couldn't I would still very much like a career in the military, but I don't know if I can because of asthma. I heard that I could get into the airforce but I really would like to be in the SEALs and if not something else like it. I know that my asthma would be fine if I did BUD/s because I have never had much of a problem but I would have to carry in inhaler. If I can't be a SEAL, could I possibly be an Army Ranger or something else, I know I could do it, physically because I enjoy exercice, alot, and I have wanted to be in the military for a very long time, ever since about 13. I am now 17 and I would probably join around 24 to 27 after my masters or phd. Sorry that my question was so long, but I am sort of dissapointed about not being able to join something in the US military. By the way, if somehow I do get rid of my asthma, could I then become a SEAL? or something to do with SEALs?
Thank you very much for your time and sorry I wrote so much junk

Logan...in TEN YEARS or so lots can happen...you may not want to join the service, they could develop a cure for asthma, oyu could be married, have a well paying carreer, or dead.
If you have asthma (diagnosed with a Methacholine challenge) and take daily medication, steroids, or a steroid inhaler to control it, you will not be allowed in the military.
Many reasons why...use the search button, I have answered this question IN DETAIL at least 3 times on these boards.
Your desire to serve is admirable, but at the current time, its fruition is not very likely.
Good luck

thank you for answering. I read the other posts and I only need my inhaler when I run, or swim in the cold, and then I do not need a steroid inhaler, I use my inhaler only about 6 to 8 times a month, if it is cold or humide outside and then I am perfectly fine for a very long time. You are definitely right, alot can happen in ten years but I would definitely prefer to have a military career than have a well paying job. I think I will just continue training, finish college and then see what options are available. Thanx again for your advice

No Worries Buddy...take care of yourself, keep up on your excercise, DO WELL IN SCHOOL and never lose respect for your folks. Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and a heart to match.
Set goals, keep them in focus and drive on.
Good Luck, keep us posted on your progress and decisions if you want. We are all ears.:D

If you get that much school, don't knock out going DOD, There are alot of very special jobs that pay well.
Check out the Department of Defense Jobs list.
