I'll keep this short:

About me:
I am 27 years old, turning 28 in January. I got out of the USMCR after 9 years this past Nov serving as an 0311 and a MCIWS from EWTG PAC. I've completed a BS and MA in Management Information Systems. I currently work in NYC as an analyst and reside in Manhattan. I'm getting married to a stable, good girl this year.

Goal:
Take a shot at BUD/S around March 2005 (appox 20 months from now). That will put me at 29 years old, but I'll be fiscally ready to go and my wife will be at a point in her career to make a move. I'd like to go as a reservist to protect my civilian career in the case that I get injured since I've fullfilled my initial reserve obligation.

Question:
1. When is the best time for me to join the Naval Reserves? Too early, and I put myself at risk of being activated and missing out on being fiscally prepared (besides being activated). Too late, and I am afraid the paperwork will take me into my 30th birthday. My window would be anytime after December 2003 until I leave (assuming March 2005).

2. Does anyone have any experience with reserve units in the NYC area? I don't want to attach to a unit where the CO and Admin sit on my package.

Thanks in advance. My email is pklesius@hotmail.com if you perfer to communicate that way.
