Dear Wetwash,

Thank you first of all for answering all of these questions. It has made a great impact. My question is that I was wondering how the family deals with this dangerous and time consuming occupation. I hope that one day that I will earn the right to wear the gold trident but I am also hoping to have a family. I have a girlfriend and things are getting serious and i have been considering all of my options. If I were to have a family and I do become a SEAL, how will I know that my family will be supported if something were to happen while I was out serving my country. Is there is some assurance that I could give to my family so they could support my goal. Thank you in advance for answering this question and keep up the great work on this site.

My wife can't imagine me doing anything else. She's not too thrilled about the amount of time I spend at work, especially now that I am commissioned, but she knows it's what I was meant to do. She doesn't get too concerned with the inherent dangers of the job, since she has met most of the guys I work with, and understands that we conduct hazardous training safer than most other military units in the world. She keeps the bills up to date back home, and takes care of the house and pets. At this point in my life, I certainly couldn't do it without her.

Chickenhawk is right on.. My wife was with me through my entire 17 yrs as a Active Duty SEAL. Her one and only complaint was the deployments and the amount of time away from home...But as Chickenhawk stated...She knew that this is whatt i wanted to do and supported me every second.

Thnx for the quick response. My other question is, what will the military do for your family if something were to happen to you. How would your family be supported if there is no paycheck for the work?. Thnx
