Would it be better for you to know a foreign language in the Green Beret BEFORE you go in???

I asked a recruiter that question and he said it doesn't really matter...it may help you as far as getting a shot at the training, but you are required to learn an additional language afterwards.

it all depends on where they need you. If they have a need for you to learn another language they'll send you to language school.. But.. keep in mind, if you speak any other languages you can take the fluency test and depending on your score get language pay for up to 3 diff languages I believe... more money for the more difficult languages.

Hey, thanx man. Do you happen to know what languages are considered more difficult?

basically any language that isnt based off of latin.. but there are three levels of difficulty. I believe that Russian is one of the top level.. so if you're fluent thats like $300 added onto you're pay.. you's in luck ;)

don't quote me but I believe there's actually about 5 categories ( if they start at a Cat I level ). Russian is Cat IV along with I believe Arabic. English is Cat V.

FLP ( Foreign Language Proficiency ) pay is $100 or $150 a month I believe and there's only certain languages that recieve it now, too many Spanish and German speakers now, for example. In order to recieve FLP pay you must score high enough on the DLPT ( Defense Language Proficiency Test ) to warrant it.

hmm.. there might be more than 3 levels.. not sure myself I guess.. but I'm pretty sure that the pay depends on the difficulty of the language.. more money.. for the harder language. but that might have been changed...
