You seem to be knowledgable on this subject, so maybe you can help me out.

I know a guy who says that he was a Ranger. He was in from 77 to 78 or possibly 79. Whatever the minimum enlistment was back then. After basic traning, he was trained on operating tanks, and went on a deployment to germany. He only left the states one time to go to germany. He's got pictures of himself and the tank that he drove as well as the rest of the crew. He says he was a ranger in germany. Can you get qualified as a ranger out of the country, in that amount of time? I think he's full of bs.He says he got into a fight in germany and pulled some german's eye out, and the army sent him back to the states to avoid a law suit so his record is sealed. I think thats bs too. Do you know anything about the schools or training you would have had to attend to become a ranger back then, or where i might find the info if you don't know?
thanks

Smells like BS, here's why:

he was trained on operating tanks,

I've seen tanker officers with Ranger Tabs, but not enlisted

He says he was a ranger in germany.

No Ranger Bns in Germany. Ranger School ain't there either.

In that amount of time? Yes. Out of the country? Not since Darby's Rangers in WW2....; unless he went TDY back to the states for Ranger School ( don't know if the MOS requirements were different then )

If I were you I'd ask him if he served in the Ranger Regiment. If he says yes, raise a BS flag-the Regiment wasn't created until 87. Ask him if he served in a Ranger Battalion. If he says yes, ask which one. If he says 3d, raise a BS flag-3d came about in 86. If he says 1st or 2d, ask where he went to RIP. And best of all, ask for his Ranger School class number. Should be a 3 or 4 digit number, the last 2 numbers will be the year he went through ( ie 77, 78, or 79 ),
