I'm as old as you are and am going to enter the Navy for the SEALs as well. Do the BUD/S Warning Order on this site, and you should be fine. Should you finish that and your spark for the Teams is still shining, do some of Stew Smith's workouts. You'll then have a decent PT schedule and will always have enough time to prepare while in the regular fleet.

Number one thing I would suggest is that when you get into highschool, join the swim team and the water polo team if they have one. I know these two activites kinda have a reputation as being wuss sports but it'll pay off big time in the end. I severely severely regret not doing that. Other sports I think might be beneficial are X-country and wrestling. X-country obviously because of the tons of running over various surfaces. Wrestling not so much for any combative purpouse but because its a very physical sport, will really get you into good shape (very few things can kick your butt as much as a 3 hour nonstop wrestling practice), and will give you a little taste at getting bumps and bruises. As far as the BUD/S warning order, its beneficial as a guideline but dont be bound to it. My suggestion would be to work in some sets with high reps. Ya the warning order is great at building anareobic endurance, but only in the low rep range. If your doing sets of pushups in the 20-35 rep range your going to have big problems trying to do sets of 100+.

Water polo and swimming were the greatest things to happen to me in high school. Now that I've decided to train for the SEALs, I feel at a huge advantage.

Swim and run, dude. Get your endurance up. Push-ups and situps and pull-ups are important, but the biggest obstacle to overcome will be your mind. I'm not a SEAL, so you can take this for what's it's worth to you, but don't get all hung up on the physical. It's important, sure. But think about the mental challenges and how to overcome those. Do you want to be cold 24/7? Do you want to be dirty, cramped and hungry in a sand pit? Do you like to swim--for hours? Do you want to run till your heart bursts (or feels that way)? Do you like people spitting in your face (while they're screaming)? Do you like the dark? Underwater? By yourself? That's stuff to think about and for me, the place to focus with my workouts. Who cares if I can run 12 miles if I can't stand bugs crawling up my back in some dark place? Who cares if I like to swim if I don't like swallowing dirty seawater for 3 hours? See what I'm trying to say? Use your workouts to overcome metal challenges.

Good luck, dude,

Mark

Go out for cross country as well. I'm doing cross country the first semester and swimming the second, while I swim/run in the respective sport that does the other. I feel that in a year I'll be ready for BUD/S as I ever will, but the aforementioned obstacle will be a huge barrier.

One thing that is always forgotten here. Develop good study habits..ANd good Character as well..the mental part of training is 90%..the physical part is tough...but means nothing without the mental strength to go with it. Humility is an important factor..Don't bother attempting BUD/S with an "attitude". The Instructors have all ot that you need...lol
