This was emailed to me by a friend with a request for help in finding out if this guy is what he says he is, or a BS artist stealing the valor of real SFs to promote his business, anyway, here goes my cut and paste.
****************************
I know, through my dad and a friend, a man (shouldn't be called that) who is claiming many military service awards and accomplishments to help generate business for his Karate school.

Here are some of the things he has done in the past.

Thrown out of the Washington Air National Guard for wearing service awards related to Vietnam era service that he never earned. These included awards that hadn't been given out since the Spanish-American awards.

Forced out of /terminated from a local police force for fabricating evidence/lying to get search warrants that resulted in numerous people being sent to prison only to be sprung when his actions came to light in court. These were mostly drug related and his karate website lists "undercover narcotics" work and special forces MacV type stuff.

Here are some cut and past stuff from his website.

Shihan Bennest started training in Judo in 1968. The instructor moved away in his military job and Steve then continued his training in Japanese Shotokan Karate. Shihan Bennest received his Black Belt in 1971 from Sensei Lee Rang Chung. Shihan Bennest served in the United States Army Special Forces known as the Green Berets. He then went to Vietnam in 1969 and spent a wonderful vacation there. In 1970 when he returned from Vietnam, he was sent to 10th Special Forces Group at Fort Devens M *** achusetts and received his Black Belt in Boston. He then volunteered to go back to the land of fun in the sun Vietnam, for a second tour of duty. (what a fruit cake) Shihan Bennest was *** igned to the 5th Special Forces Group known as MAC-V SOG or Special Operations Group and given the task of being with the 41 Rangers in Moc Hoa. Shihan Bennest was shot by a sniper 6 days from terminating his second year in sunny Vietnam. Steve received numerous awards and medals for his service. Shihan Bennest has Honorable Discharges from the Army as well as from three other military services. He was with the United States Coast Guard Reserves and served as a Port Security Investigator. Shihan Bennest again received special awards and medals from the Coast Guard. He served with the California Army National Guard as a Military Police Investigator and received two medals from them as well as two commendation letters. He served with the Washington Air National Guard as a Combat Firearms Instructor and was on the State Pistol Team.

Do you know of an org. similiar to cyberseals.org that can help expose this scumbag? I would like to have several different organizations come down on him about the time we drop the State A.G. on him for fraud.

From what he wrote there, his SF service is BS. But I'll run his name past a few folks who might shed some light.

Got a first name?

I was on Ft. Bragg from '67-'70 with a few TDY's during that time. I was active with Sport Judo and Karate on and off post and I never met they man in question.

Its been a while, so I may be wrong, but did not MAC-V-SOG pull out before then. I got to Bragg in 71 and I also taught some of our guys and worked out with a guy at the 82nd gym and knew a few folks who studied the arts, but his name does not ring a bell. But it has been 31 years ago.ASK HIM FOR HIS COIN.Ask him where he did his Q course.Ask him where Uwharrie is and what he did there.Come back here for the answer.
Best Regards RR
