gentlmen,

During my workout swims I have been swimming in the surf zone parallel to the break. I have been doing this more or less the whole time I have been trainning. I do this to help get use to doing CSS on both sides, also to get use to being in the surf zone, and to get better at breathing in surf. My question is when I do my longer conditioning swims should I perform those the same way or should I go straight out through the surf zone do my distance and head back in? Any response from a BTDT SEAL would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is hypoxsic freestyle swimming the best way to prepare for the 50m underwater Pass/Fail test besides running?

Thanking you in Advance,

Stay parallel to the beach, from 50 to 100 yards outside the surf zone. That is how you will do almost every one of your swims in BUD/S. Also, you can reach the beach much faster in the event of boat traffic, exhaustion, cramps, or sudden weather changes. I would also swim with a buddy, if at all possible.

I wouldn't worry about the 50m underwater swim until you get to BUD/S. You'll have plenty of training prior to the actual test. The best way to safely build up your breath hold capability is to swim and run often.
