I have a question for the SEALS im leaving for boot camp in december and my recruiter and i were talking and he knows i want to be a SEAL but im wondering is it best to go out to the fleet for a year and then apply for BUD/S or just go for the shot in boot camp any opinions or advice would be really helpful
It is up to you. I chose to go straight to BUD/S because I did not want the fleet experience. However, the fleet first is a good idea, because you get some military experience under your belt and understand how the Navy works a little better, you can get some rate and then go to BUD/S as a newby yet somewhat "seasoned" sailor rather than a fresh recruit.
I will be honest though, if I had it to do all over again, I would still do what I did by going boot camp, A School, BUD/S (no fleet first for me). But thats just me. Like I said only you can make that decision.
If I remember correctly, "back in the day," fleet experience was a requirement for BUD/S candidates, not anymore though. Hope this helps....regardless of your final decision good luck...Follow your heart....
