Dude,
I love this story. I think it captures the playfulness you can find in the Teams.
I was a New Guy at Team 5 when one day at quaters the Master at Arms asked for 4 volunteer to do platoon support out at Niland. Me and 3 buddies volunteered, we were waiting for our platoons to form up and realy had nothing to do until then. So off we went to do platoon support. It was cool as hell. Basically what we did was build target sites and then man them so that the platoons could recon them, then do a DA. So we built some killer sites for them to hit.
After the building was done we broke up into 2 two man teams to patrol the sites. Basically we pretended to be the enemy and do patrols around the taget sites. Well me and my buddy pulled the days shifts. From 6 am to 6 pm.
It got hot as hell out there. We managed to survive on cold beer in a nice big cooler though. Anyway, I stripped down to my undies on our last shift. we knew that the sniper teams would be out making sketches and recording data, so my buddy dared me to patrol around naked. Hell yeah! Why not, give the sketch teams something to look at. So I stripped bare bones....all I had was a boonie hat, boots, and an AK. I pimped around for a while trying to put on a good show. I did naked jumping jacks, naked push ups, me and my buddy were laughing our *** off.
Well just around the bend we noticed a dust cloud. Ah, I thought this might be the Training Cell guy that was incharge of us.......so I let the show continue as the van came closer. Sure enough it was the T-cell dude.........however he wasn't alone. All be damned if the XO of Team 5 wasn't right there with him.
He was cool though. The XO simply walked over to mem looked me in the eye and asked, "are you Impastato?"
I said, "yes sir."
XO asked, "did you take Japanese in college?"
I replied, "yes sir"
He then asked, "Do you want to take Korean at San Diego state?"
I replied. "yes sir."
Xo said, " great then stop by my office on when you get back, class starts on monday."
-he walked away for bit, stopped, shook his head and said, "you might want to show up to class with some cloths on."
It was too funny. He was so calm about it. I'm sure I wasn't the first naked Team Guy he had ever seen, but damn he sure rmemebered me after that one.
This my friends is the fun side to the Teams. Work hard and play hard.........................
