Question for all with accurate information. Can someone tell me more about being a SEAL Reserve? I understand that you have to go through BUD/s like anyone else but what about after you graduate? How does it work once you get assigned to a Team? Any information about the SEAL Reserves would be great.

I'm in the reserves right now and I just finished up my BUD/S package. What the Dive motivator told me here in Coronado is I will be transfered to active duty, go to BUD/S, and upon graduation, I would be obligated to serve 52 months (used to be 36) active duty on a Team. After that, I could choose to go to a Reserve Team or stay active. Hope this helps.

Eggscali, Great info man. Ive been waiting for someone to post that information forever. Anyways I have a couple of more questions maybe you can answer. Ive already talked to a Navy Reserve Recruiter and he told me that I would have to go active duty to get accepted into BUD/s. But I have found information on that net that says you can. So I guess the bottom line is that you can from the reserves. My question is how long do you have to be in the reserves to apply for BUD/s training and, how hard is it to get accepted to BUD/s from the reserves vs. going active from the beginning and getting the SEAL Challenge Contract? And one more if you dont mind, how long have you been in the Reserves?
Thanks a lot and God Bless. Dan Out...........

Dan,

You are supposed to be in the Reserves for 1 year before going to BUD/S, but that is easily waiverable. I have only been in the Reserves for a couple months and I'm not having any problems with my BUD/S package. So far getting accepted to BUD/S through the reserves seems smoother versus active, but when I went to BUD/S when I was active duty in 1995, the SEAL challenge contract didnt exist.

Eggs,

When are you going to BUD/s? Just curious, my best friend should be in next summer's class......Hopefully I won't be too far behind him. Thanks again for your info.

My BUD/S package is being faxed to PERS401D today, and they tell me I should be transfered to active duty in about a week. I will find out real soon what class I'll be in. If there are any slots to be filled in 247, I am guessing I'll be in that class.

That's great dude, good luck on making it through.

What do you think the class numbers will be at around by 2006-2007?

So lets say you have been in the reserves for a year and have done your 17 day boot camp for the reserves wherever it is. Your saying when you go active that you go through the 10 week boot camp as well?

I'm not sure how boot camp works with the reserves and going to BUD/S. I went to bootcamp when I was active duty in 1994 so I didn't have to worry about bootcamp when I signed up for the Reserves.

If you want give this Reserve recruiter a jingle, NC2 Erik Jorgensen 619-593-3538. He deals a lot with BUD/S candidates from the reserves and can probably answer any questions you might have.
