anyone ever been caught in a riptide? what's the SEAL procedure when it comes to rip tides?

With a riptide the correct thing to do, whether one is a SEAL or a recreational swimmer, is to swim to the leeward, in the direction the tide is flowing, parallel to the beach. After a lengthy swim the swimmer will exit the force of the tide and be able to turn perpendicular to the beach.
And yes, I was caught in a rip. But the option to swim away was not there. We had a job to do and it almost drown several of us.
