I have read and heard about the 6 month probationary period with a SEAL team after the jump school... Is it still possible to fail? And, how do they decide which team you go to?

Absolutely, you cam still fail. This "probationary period" is your time to prove yourself to the rest of the SEALs, that you are worthy of wearing the SEAL Trident and calling yourself a SEAL. Most of the guys will make it through this time and earn the trident, but some guys have not made it through so it is possible to fail out at this point. Its a very important time so pay attention if you get that far.....
how do they decide which team you go to?
You get to fill out a "dream sheet" of your top choices of what Team you would like to go to. This is usually filled out at the end of second phase or beginning of third phase. But it really is a "DREAM" sheet. *lol* Where you go will ultimately be the decision of the Navy as they will put you at the Team they need you with. But you get to show them what you would prefer and they will accomodate you IF it is possible...

It's my understanding that the probationary period is no longer being used after the guys get to their respective Teams. They now earn their Trident after completing BUD/s in San Diego. I believe it's called SQT. I would ask my husband, but he's working tonight. I'll correct this (or let someone else do it) as soon as my husband gives me more information. But I do know the guys are showing up at their teams with their Tridents now.

You are right, Frogwife. They get their Tridents upon sucessful completion of SQT, before reporting to their first command. I believe this took effect in mid-late '01, as my husband got his at SQT graduation.
zozeph0205, Guys will fail/be performance dropped during SQT (mostly for safety violations). And probation period or not, you can get your Trident taken away at any time. In my husband's short time in the Teams so far, I've heard it happen a few times.
