Hello,
The standard 5 mile run for the Ranger Battalion is 5 miles in 45 minutes or less not 40 minutes (unless things have changed since December 1999). That is a standard run you have to pass in RIP to graduate. We ran our 5 mile in alittle under 33 minutes. We had a medic from Fort Bragg a E-4 puking his guts up after the run. I though it was fast myself. And since we didnt do it in the standard 45 minutes all who failed got to re-run the 5 miles the next morning. The run startes at the RIP barracks and goes around the airfield to a 2.5 mile maker spray painted on the pavement. FYI its been mostly down hill from the start. At the 2.5 mile marker you will turn around and run back to the start. Heres where it gets hard. Not only is it up hill for 2.5 miles but the run gets faster little by little. The Ranger Instructors can run faster in boots then most guys can in a pair of nikes. During RIP there are 3 classes of runners slow-medium-and fast. If your in the med to fast group you will have little problem doing the 5 mile run in 45 minutes.

5 miles in 40 minutes or less; occurs in the first week of RIP. When I was there ( med dropped from 11-01 ) it was done at the one mile track, just down the hill from the barracks, as an individual event.
FYI its been mostly down hill from the start.
um, would that hill happen to have an affectionate little nickname of "Cardiac Hill"?

We has a saying, if you're in Columbus and for some stupid reason you get into a fight with a Ranger, don't bother running-cause you'll just get the snot beat out of you, and be tired.

Now there's only the formation, stay with it.

Thanks for the heads up Mac, lol. I'll remember that in my years to come.
