Okay I'm confused about this. Once you pass the Ranger Indoctrination Program and get into the 75th Regiment are you required to attend Ranger School?

pass RIP, survive Batt, and you'll get a crack at Ranger School, the tab being required for leadership positions in the Regt.

yes... all RIP does is show that you have the desire and physical capability to be in the regiment. A fair number of the soldiers in the ranger batts are not tabed yet. When you make it to the reg you will have a kind of learning period where you will be taught everything that you need to know to be a Ranger, then, when they feel you are ready, they will send you to the school. Many times its just a formality because the soldiers have been doing the tasks for upwards of a year. But until they are tabed they're "sub-human". Hope that helps.

Hello,
When I was with the 1st Ranger Battalion a new so to speak rule was put out by the Battalion CSM. A new Ranger arriving to the Battalion could stay a maxium of 2 years without going to Ranger school. Ranger school is a leadership school period not a commando school. All the Special Operations skills are taught in the Ranger Battalions not in Ranger school. So, to answer your question "No", you do not have to attend Ranger school unless you are looking to stay with a Ranger Battalion. And heres alittle helpful info for you. It is alot easier to get schools ie; sniper, dive, scout swimmer etc if your tabbed. And you are treated like a piece of _____ until you have earned your tab. RIP is not a cake walk in its self. Once you graduate from RIP you are looked at as a Ranger but, will not be given a position of leadership until you have your tab. So, whether you have a tab or not you are still required to fight and die all the same. Your platoon leader, team leader and squad leader will push you to attend Ranger school.
