Really good advice: DO NOT RUN IN BOOTS. I know you are excited, but running in boots prematurely can mean the end of your Naval Special Warfare career before it has even begun. First of all, boots were not made to be run in. Although you do it BUD/S, and you see the instructors doing it all the time, we don't do it in the teams. You spend a lot of time in the teams in the field in boots. It is not worth it for us to risk the same injuries that we got in BUD/S all over again. Prior to BUD/S I used to PT and hike in Bates Lites 928s. This was just to get my feet used to wearing them. As you will find out in BUD/S, few people will be able to make it through without some shin splints or even worse, stress fractures. I wouldn't worry about not being used to running in boots on the sand when you arrive at BUD/S. Everyone, I promise you, will suffer some sort of strain on their lower legs from this. It all depends on how bad it is, and if you can continue through training. I am not trying to scare anyone, because BUD/S is far from being impossible. If you run in tennis shoes prior to training, you will not be less likely to make it. If you feel that your legs can take it, then more power to you, but I would not recommend it. Injuries will mean the difference between a life in the teams, or a life swabbing decks. It would suck to show up to BUD/S with the same injuries that post Hellweeks guys have.

just to clarify. i am not a SEAL, or in the military, or going to BUDS. just was looking for a decent pair of boots to train in, and maybe do a little running in. no marathons. i am not looking to spend a lot of money, and have narrowed down my search to the above mentioned boots. would like a pro's (ie. SEAL's) opinion. thank you.

Im not military affiliated. However, check out www.actiongear.com. You can get great boots for under $100. However, at www.botach.com you can get a pair of Adidas GSG-9 boots worn by and designed for real operators for about $160. I always spend top dollar, my feet are worth it.
