Italian SEALs

G'Day Guys

Reading a very good Australian puplication the other day about our (Australias) involment in the middle east and it mentioned Italian SEALs and showed some pictures their uniformes were Italian and they were doing spec op looking stuff . So did they get it wrong were they just divers or some other spec ops group or are they seals if so any link to the states like our SAS and the british or are they just using the name because they do a similar role .

You are comparing apples with apples. Only the name changes. The Italians had a form of SEAL or Frogman dating back to WWII that was quite effective. In the early 1950's the Italians furnished tech advisers to the U.S. Navy Frogmen.

The Italiaians may use a different name, but when you do approximately the same thing a name change does not make the apple into a pineapple.

Italian SEALS are named COMSUBIN (Comando Incursori Subacquei) you can see some old rebreather into my site

Thanks thats all I wanted to know in the storie they were called SEALs but I didnt know if this was the reprter making it up and if they had another name

If that was intended for me let me firstly say that I to have worked with Italian military and had no problems what so ever .

Secondly all I was asking is if the Italians were doing a similar thing to us ( Australians) with the regemient e.g. we have very similar selection corses and training and act in the same roll (a lot more than just sharing a name) as the Brit SASetc etc . Do the Italians have exchange programs with rthe US Navy and is thier training similar to the Yank SEAL teams did the first ever Italian SEAL train in the states first . I was asking because I have only ever heard of American SEALs .

As i understand it, the US has exchanges with every NATO country. They are not referred to as SEALs, They're name is COMSUBIN commando subaquei speciale. There are three different grops within comsubin. combat, counter-terrorist and engineers. They're also known as the green berets, because thats what they wear.
