I was just wondering what is all involved in getting a securtiy clearance? I know for the police force and f.b.i. for example you have to take a lie detector test and things like that, if thats what seals go throught what kind of questions do they ask? Thanks for the help!
Matt
No polygraph (lie detector) tests for military guys. Those tests are not always 100% accurate. An extremely thorough personal background check is performed on you though: credit history, interview of old teachers, neighbors, etc., police and court checks (expunged/"sealed" records too - FBI does the checks and they have access to it ALL). It is very thorough and polygraph is not necessary anyway. Hope this answered your question.....

Actually Doug once again you're wrong. For a "Secret" clearance which is all you need for BUD/S all they do is an investigative check on you such as credit and police checks which they can do from a computer, and also a quick interview. Once you get to the Teams if you need a higher clearanance then theres more involved to that. For example, I was an IT which requires a Top Secret clearance and for that they do do the other stuff Doug was talking about such as having the FBI interview your teachers, neighbors, relatives, ect. But for a simple Secret clearance which is only what you need for BUD/s they don't do all that.

I think Doug answered the question perfectly. The original poster didn't specify BUD/s security clearance. And most people look beyond a few months at BUD/s when they are thinking about a SEAL career.
Good post, Doug.
