I have a little debate with a local Doc who lap swims at my facility.
Doc says never eat or drink right away if suffering from hypothermia. But instead warm up first. Reason is blood will flow to the stomach area and cause remainder of body to become colder and thus worsen effects of hypothermia.
I have found that hot chocolate, hot soup ( high carb) seems to warm up my core temp faster and the digestion process warms my core up and then the rest of my body without feeling weak or nausea. I can return to diving much quicker and can continue diving longer without feeling effects of cold water dives as compared to other divers who do not ingest hot fluids or food.
Have any of you divers have any input on this based on your own experience?
TIA
