I am 16 years old and I want to be a SEAL. I dont really know if I should just join the SEALs or if I should join the Navy for like diesel mechanic and then join the SEAL program as i learn more about it and go through basic training. Will an actual SEAL please answer this. Everyday I read the post's in here and these people that arent SEALs are answering questions they have no buisness answering and I would like to get a good opinion on what I should do. Thank you very much.

It would be damn near impossible to get to SEALs as a diesel mechanic. You have to be a certain source rating, find one that you like if you want to go SEALs but you aren't sure.

Excuse me, but WTF!?
Okey, a diesel mechanic might not get as much training as you would prefer but that is still your own business (join without being enlisted would be the same thing).
And you are NOT required to be a certain source rating, even thou you will have to change your rating once youre in.

Note: the SEAL program is open to all enlisted Navy active duty members (with exception to established requirements) regardless of their rating. Once you are in the SEAL program you will be required to change your rating to one of the rates listed below, if applicable.

And kevin22ca, are you a SEAL? If you in fact are, no offence but read up some. And if you aren't read his message more carefully.
And NickSutton, sorry for answering this question, I am not a SEAL, just ... oh well, something.

I have known many fine Diesel Mechanics that were Frogmen or SEALs. The Rating (Specialty) you are interested in is called Engineman. See this link for a list of SEAL source Ratings:

Hey Wazz thanks for the links.I appreciate it. Ya I forgot it was engineman, all that I knew is that they are like diesel mechanics cause primarily they work on diesel engines and some gas engines.Kevin22ca or what ever the **** your name is....remember this.... nothing is impossible. Anybody can do anything and what the **** your not even a SEAL you dropped out. I am 16 years old im sorry.... and god forbid I say diesel mechanic instead of engineman cause they do the same things.Krayn it's ok, thank you for at least giving me a good honest answer and not busting my *** about saying diesel mechanic instead of engineman because god for **** in bid that kevin boy here doesnt make mistakes. Thanks for the responses.

I did not want to offer my own experience as an answer to your question, but rather I wanted to let you read the modern day version of Engineman.

I attended "Engineman", Class A School in the early days. They taught the Grey Marine and Budda Diesel and the generators that were attached to them. In those days the "Engineman" Rating was "Motor Machinist Mate", with a symbol of a propeller and MO on one side and MM on the other side. Today it is the cogged gear wheel.

No I was not a Motor Mac, as the nick name went. The Fleet was so short of people that to get a ship underway they took people from other ships to make one ship sea prepared. I went from my MOMM school background to Deck Force in one 5 second "Welcome Aborad" meeting with the Executive Officer. A move that many years later would advanatage out to my benefit.
