Everybody knows that just by shoppong around online, you'll find hundreds of items relating in some way to the SEAL Teams. Many of them have actually no connection.
But what about the SAFTA tape? I saw it on sealteams.com and thought it might be a good prep for BUD/S.Not because the skills are needed for BUD/S, although they certainly might help, but because of the insight it will give you about the SEAL mentality.
Any of you actual SEALs seen the tape? Would it aide me in my work-up training?

Participating in a SAFTA course will not help prepare you for BUD/S in any fashion other than a little conditioning. The current method of hand to hand combat that is currently being used is taught at BUD/S and once you are in the Teams. Pesonally I would not recommend spending the money.
Im with Wetwash on this one. As a current martial arts instructor - I receive numerous inquiries on what do the SEALs use in real life. I have also answered this question numerous times on this forum. Ill explain again here for those who did not read the earlier posts. There is NO ONE specific style used in the Teams: not SAFTA, not SCARS, not Deiter CQB, etc., etc. We are taught a wide variety of techniques stemming from all types of martial arts styles: Krav Maga, Ninjutsu, JKD, etc., etc. Our philosophy is the same philosophy originated by Bruce Lee - use whatever works for you and discard what does not. Every person is different. If it works for you in regards to hand-to-hand combat, the Teams want you to use it. Common sense to. You are not restricted to learning one specific form of unarmed combat. They would not make much sense to have yourself limited when your life and the life of your teammates is at stake. You use what is effective - no matter what style it comes from or no matter where you learned it. Remember - in real life hand-to-hand combat one of two things will happen, you will either walk away or be carried away (in a body bag). So we use what works.
The only thing martial arts MAY help you with in preperation for BUD/S, like Wetwash noted is a little conditioning. May also help make your mind a little more mentally prepared - but you can not really prepare for the mental rigors of BUD/S. You'll either be able to take it or you won't. I also would suggest you not wasting your money on SAFTA or any other martial arts tapes. You can NOT learn any martial art through watching a video or reading a book or magazine. It must be practiced and lots of time must be invested. Video tapes are just a marketing tool to bring more cash to the creators. I hope this helped.....

Once again, thanks
