View Full Version : Being a Seal Officer?

I'm going to graduate with my first BA on May 2, only 21 years old, but besides that I want to join a branch of the armed forces and go to OCS. To be more specific I've always wanted to see what I'm really made of, so in the back of my head for the last ten years I've wanted to be a SEAL, but since I want to be an officer, how exactly does being a SEAL Officer work? Is it as simple as getting a commision and going to BUD/S, or does it have something to do with "Special Operations (SPECOPS) Officers Training." The Navy site is not very clear on the Spec Op Officer Training so I'm a little confused on its integration with the SEAL Teams. I'm going to talk to a recruiter in about 3 weeks after I get my mom to stop yelling at me (I'm an only child, anyone else experience this? I'm half kidding right now). And about the Seal Officer deal, I read that I will probably have to make the choice between an Officer and a SEAL, but then I saw this thing called a SEAL contract? Any help would be thankful, and it's a real honor to talk with true Warriors here.

Since you do have a college degree, you do have the oppurtunity to go out for OCS. Due to you wanting to be NSW, you are going to be faced with extreamly high competition, from your GPA, your pft scores, and other stuff that you have done while in school. I had a buddy is the same situation that you are in right now, make sure you go to a Officer Recruiter and not a enlisted one, like I said, its really competitive in getting a slot, I think I heard that they are full all the way up through 2004, but dont let this discourage you, if you want to be a O go throught process kick *** in your pft scores and make it happen, hope this helps out some how or another, hopefully some more guys can shed some light on this for you, good luck.

Sorry to tell you man but although getting to BUD/S as an enlisted guy is incredibly easy, getting to BUD/S as an officer is incredibly hard. Usually you gotta have connections or run into a guy involved in the process who feels for ya. With that said there have been some pretty weak officers at BUD/S so if you're exceptionally qualified you'll have a much greater chance.

TRIGAROUS-

kevin is NOT and NEVER was a Navy SEAL. His advice, comments, suggestions, and guidance are NOT endorsed, encouraged, NOR are they accepted or recognized by this community.

Pay CLOSE attention, however, to the REAL SEALs who come here JUST for this purpose... to answer your questions. THEY are the real deal and have been through the entire program. THEY will be able to offer you the most effective and most accurate advice, suggestions, and recommended courses of action.

Best wishes... AND DON'T QUIT CHASIN' THAT DREAM, SON... THE ONLY EASY DAY WAS YESTERDAY!!!!
