Hello my name is Josh and I just became a member the other day and this is my first post. I have a question about swimming. I have no access to pool. But I read if you ride a bike for twice as long as you are suppose to swim it does the same thing. But I dont have a bike. Would irt be worth getting a bike ?

Reading your Profile I see you are serious. Allow me to give you the capsule version of an answer.

A bicycle would be good for building your legs, hips and cardiovascular (heart, lungs, blood flow) system. But this leaves out your arms and shoulder areas. To save you buying a bicyle I suggest you do a lot of running. Do some floor exercises. Like while laying down, leg lifts, sit ups, then push ups. Get some type of weights, about 10-12 pounds and do circular shoulder and swim stroke exercises. Never mind the fancy weights. Anything that weighs will do. If you have to buy the weights just get the weights, forget the bar.

To get used to cold water take cold showers or cold baths.

The above is the cheap version of how to get in shape. I note you are tall and thin. You will wish for a little more muscular availability when going through BUDS and on into the Teams.

Riding a Bike is a excellent exercise, add in a few calisthenics and you have a good training program.IF you are going to ride though..Put some effort in it..I ride 14 miles a day, Avg speed is 12 MPH...and I am 62.
