I've talked to people and they said that a person might want to get a little fat on them before they go into seals because they say i will loose a lot of weight and that it will be a lot easier to keep warm if i have a little bit of blubber to keep me warm??? what do ya'll think?

Go ask the walrus, he knows everything.
Go ask the walrus, he knows everything.
WTF bro?.....*lmao*....
and for the question - no dont put fat on you for BUD/S. The cold is just something you can either endure through or you can't....a little "blubber" is not going to make a difference. Trust me - your *** WILL BE shivering cold and miserable either way..........

Doug thats BS that you can endure it either way. I was in a winter class (223) and guys would get yanked from hyping out too many times in a row and theres not much you can do about that. You lose consciosness then you lose consciousness. As a matter of fact the best leader at all of BUD/S and the fittest guy at BUD/S while I was there got yanked out like that, he was class leader of 222. Gone I believe 3rd day of hell week from hyping out 4 times in 2 hours.

Hey man, is that really true?
I´ve done some rather cold dives myself (Baltic sea midwinter), but we were always thinking about safety..
Did they really toss the guy back in before he was OK, and 4!! times!
I thought the instructors were pro´s..
A well, what do I know..
Romulus out.

So a thin guy would pass out in freezing cold water? Is there a way to prepare for that type of training?

Rom what they do is once you loose consciousness they throw you in an ambulance and rush you back to the med center (usually you're only just right behind it) and throw you in a "hot" tub. Its only like 80 degrees at first so you don't go into shock but then they slowly warm your "core temperature back up to a safe level before they throw you back in the ocean if thats still where the class is. How do they know what your core temperature is? Painful anal probes lol........ i'm laughing but I'm seriously not kiddin here

And Tag there is nothing you can do to train. After being exposed to cold water time and time again your body will mentally get used to it a little bit better but you really have no control over losing consciousness in winter classes if you're really skinny. But there is a solution! Its called a summer class. You wouldn't believe the stuff that summer classes are not aware of. I was talking to one summer graduate and he had no clue of people "hyping" out! There is a HUGE discrepency betweem summer and winter classes. While there's usually only around 20 guys left after Hell Week in a winter class its not unusual to still have upwards of 100 people left in a summer class after Hell Week! The summer class right before my winter class had so many people left after first phase that they didn't have enough diving rigs for them in second phase so they just started dropping people for stupid reasons. So if you're skinny just get a summer class and then you'll be fine............. I suspect lil dougie was in a summer class

OMG! Everyone knows what hyping out is...they tell you about it beforehand.

umm no they don't, and for most trainees they don't have to since most are not in winter classes. Its kinda hard to hype out in 70 degree water in 100 degree weather lady

Thanks for the idea Kev, I'll keep that in mind...

Hi, my name is Kevin. I am a very bitter person because I could not hack it, and now I want to come back and tell everyone how easy BUD/s was. See, I have little respect for real SEALs because I have such little respect for myself. My loser friends are all Olympic style athletes who have no heart whatsoever.
I make excuses for them, and myself, because we are a sad sack of no respecting, and cant-cut-it individuals. I must have had my scrotum removed because I actually take on the wives of SEALs as well. If you'll notice in my threads, I could not hack it in BUD/s, but I am chock full of answers on how YOU can get through it.
I could not handle the cold water/weather, yet I blame this on hyping-out (sounds like coping-out), and I will go on and on about how current SEALs like Wetwash offer false advice to gonnabe's because, well, I know more. You see, I am like a gelding with no sac, no heart, and no courage. I have nothing to offer here but just a bunch of excuses and derogatory comments to the entire SEAL community (because after all, I don't seem to realize that attacking the SEALs or their wives is like attacking them all.)
I was mentally and physically incapable of finishing anything in the SEAL training, and that makes me a bitter and lonely soul. I went into the SEALs because they were the VERY BEST IN THE WORLD, but now that I could not hack it, I have changed my mind and decided to belittle all of the people on this site who could hack it. I have no respect for myself, and therefore have no respect for any of you.
Again, I am a loser and a quitter - I could not make the grade, so now I must spend my days bringing down the very thing I wanted so very badly. If I don't support the SEAL community, it is because by bringing them down, I don't feel like such a whiner. quitter and a loser, and they don't appear to be the VERY BEST IN THE WORLD.
Ignore me, because I am full of excuses on why my life is just one big DOR.

The cold is no big deal, just sack up and undure the pain. If anything the cold will keep you awake!
