Hi, my name is Jon, I'm 21, from NY and I'll be leaving for boot camp in 2 weeks from today. I'm under the SEAL Challenge program and have been rigorously training for the past 5 months or so. I've been doing great, less than 28 minutes on 4 mile boot runs, 1.5 mile swims in good time, and for the screen test, low 10's on the swim, into the 90's with pushups, 80's for situps, 17 pullups, and low 10's for the run. But recently, say the past two weeks or so, I've hit this nasty slump. I'm not gaining in anything, in fact sometimes my times are worse. I just KNOW I still have that fire in my belly to succeed, but what's going on? Has anything like this happened to anybody else? I'm wondering if it's just anxiety manifesting itself now that the "big day" is getting close. Do any of the SEALs here have any thoughts and especially suggestions? I would appreciate it.

Sounds like the classic symptoms of over-training.

You should train 5 days a week. 8 hours + sleep at night. Great diet.
I like to supplement with protein shakes- 1 banana, 8Oz of OJ, 8 Oz skim milk, 1-scoop protein powder, 2- handfuls of berries of your choice. And mix in blender. I like frozen banana to chill shake when weather is hot.

Good routine is the same as a triathlete.would use.

Check out alt.sport.weightlifting good stuff there.

ive experienced this with my cross country team. we train all year round but sometimes when a guy that is usually pretty fast starts having bad days and getting slow, we jokingly refer to that as the down syndrom. (lol) but usually what is happening here is that you pushing your body hard every day exept for everyother day. it takes a pretty good while for all your muscles of one group to completly recover from an intence workout. try to concentrate on alternating your workouts. like what i do is all of my PT (and heavy running) on mondays wednesdays and fridays while swimming (and light running) on tuesday, thursday and saturday. leaving sunday for rest. hope this helps

PERHAPS YOU SHOULD TAKE A FEW DAYS OFF - YOU HAVE HIT BURN OUT. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR A FEW DAYS - LIKE TAKE A LONG HIKE, OR GO MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDING. THE PROBELM WITH THE WORKOUT PROGRAM IS THAT YOU END UP DOING THE SAME THINGS EVERY DAY - THAT IS OK TO BUILD COMPETENCY IN THOSE THINGS (SWIM, RUN AND PT) BUT YOU NEED TO BE MUCH MORE VERSATILE THAN THAT. A BREAK IS BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY RECHARGING - YOU WILL NOTICE A HUGE DIFFERENCE WHEN YOU COME BACK TO YOUR SCHEDULED WORKOUT.

But recently, say the past two weeks or so, I've hit this nasty slump. I'm not gaining in anything, in fact sometimes my times are worse.

Take a couple of days when you do "fun" things to break the monotony of your workouts.
ex. Repelling and climbing rocks, hiking or just walk for a couple of miles.
Don`t push to hard, just enjoy your self.
Important thing is to keep "active" while resting so your body gets a chance to recover an transport the " **** " out of the system. LOL
Thats my humble advice (works for me).

Romulus out.
