During breathing under-water, is it important whether your breath through your nose or mouth? Does one show precedence over the other? Or is it a trade-off for use of both nose and mouth? My strengths in the cardio department are predominantly on land (running). However, I am trying to improve my swimming capabilities with direct focus on proper technique. Is there a certain breathing technique that I should be worried about for long-duration under-water breathing concerning through nose or mouth?

Breath underwater? Do you have gills?
