Hey guys,

I need help here. How do you tell if a guy is a fake or real when he talks about being a Green Beret? I have a guy I talk to online that says he is a col. in the army and appache helicopter division commander. He also says he earned the right to wear the Green Beret badge. I have his name if anyone can help out with that. Col. Cole DuBois. Does that ring a bell with anyone? He is 41.

Thanks,

Angel

Well SF does have class numbers but those are a bit more confusing than BUD/S class numbers. The Army likes to number their classes sequentially by year, for example, my Airborne class number was 23-01 or the 23rd class of Fiscal Year 2001. The class before mine was of course 22-01 and the class after 24-01. If you ask for a class number and he gives you something along the lines of 234 then he's full of it. The same rule of "That's classified" holds true, and "I forget" is probably a good BS indicator too.
If he did actually tell you he's an Apache helicopter division commander then he's full of it and probably not in the Army. No offense but I'm figuring it's more a case of lack of familiarity with Army organization on your part. Once again, no offense intended. There's only two types of divisions, Armor and Infantry ( with the exception of my unit, the 1st Cavalry Division ), everything else is support ( and Infantry will always think of Armor as support and vice versa-we tend to have a strong rivalry ). Probably an Apache Battalion commander, maybe an Aviation Brigade commander, especially at the rank of COL or LTC.

Hopefully Tracy will pop up soon, he can give you some more definite info. If not, it might be an idea to stop by the SF forum of SOCNet at specialoperations.com.

Hope it helps,
Mac

I may be mistaken, but Special Forces wear the beret and that tab. I wasn't aware of any badge.

yes SF wears the green beret and SF tab, however if he's in aviation the only badge he'd be authorized to wear is the SF tab as far as I know. Badge could also be a reference to a regimental affliation with SF which would be the SF Crest above the right breast pocket ( above name tag and unit awards ) on Class A, B, and Dress uniforms.

Mac,

The only picture I have of him is in a short sleeved shirt with the dark pants and the birds on his shoulders. This looks like an everyday uniform. If it were navy I might have a better chance here, but I have no background with army. Thanks for the heads up and I'll keep digging. If this guy is a poser, then I'll turn it over to the real people who hunt them. I honestly don't like posers. They tend to piss me off.

Angel..... I do not know anyone who has achieved anything that would be considered more than the ordinary things that brags or talks about it without someone asking. So the first thought I have is that he is not telling the truth and is trying to impress. I have talked with 2 people who maybe would know this person and did not know the name. Here is a good psych type test. Keep talking with him and do not mention or respond to his talking about this subject, talk of other things and see what he does. If he keeps going back to it,chances are he is a fake.

That's not true. I served in the Army in the 82D. When we did our payday activities sometimes we wore our Airborne wings and other times we didnt.

Hey Mac I checked your email listing on profiles but is says to ask you for the email address. I think mine is listed in my profile so email me yours and I'll be happy to send you the fully clothed picture of this poser. And Mac, if you're close to Ft. Hood I'm about a two hour drive from there. I'd be happy to feed you real food to take care of that weight(less) problem.

Understand you have a photo of this guy? Send it to me at cmu5596913@aol.com, I have a hobby of outing SF, Delta and Ranger Posers.

Pretty "High Speed" guy to have made Col. at 41. Is he a ring knocker from West Point? Ask him that question as there has NEVER been a Cole DuBois who attended West Point let alone graduated. Guess I'm pretty well retarded, took me till I was 50 to make Col. but then I had 7 1/2 years of Enlisted service in there as well.

NO SUCH THING AS AN APACHE HELICOPTER DIVISION! Also, a Division Commander is usually a Major General (2 Stars) No such thing as a "Green Beret Badge". There is a "Special Forces Tab" which is worn on the left shoulder above all other tabs and patches. "Green Berets" are hats made out of Rifle Green Felt. People who are authorized to wear a Green Beret are called Special Forces Soldiers.

This character has been scamming you. Invite him over here so we can "Discuss" his credentials with him. Should be good for a few laughs.
